Privacy Policy
Last Updated: January 4, 2026
Simple Summary: The Word Warrior stores all your writing data in YOUR own Google Drive (not on our servers). We don't collect, store, sell, or share any of your personal information or writing content. Your data belongs to you and stays with you.
1. Introduction
Welcome to The Word Warrior ("we," "our," or "us"). This Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information when you use our novel writing and project management application (the "Service").
We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy describes what data we access, how we use it, and your rights regarding your information.
2. Information We Collect and How We Use It
2.1 Data You Create in the Application
When you use The Word Warrior, you create writing projects, character profiles, plot outlines, and other creative content. This data includes:
- Project titles and descriptions
- Written content (chapters, notes, outlines)
- Character information and profiles
- World-building details
- Word count goals and progress tracking
- Query letter drafts
- Images you upload (cover images, character photos)
How we handle this data: All of your creative content is stored locally in your web browser (using browser localStorage). If you enable Google Drive sync, your data is also stored in your personal Google Drive account in a private folder (appDataFolder) that only The Word Warrior can access.
Important: We do NOT store your creative content on our servers. We do NOT have access to read, view, or use your writing projects. Your content stays entirely with you.
2.2 Google Drive Integration
If you choose to enable Google Drive sync, we request permission to:
- Access your Google Drive appDataFolder: This is a special, hidden folder that only The Word Warrior can access. Your files are NOT visible in your regular Google Drive folders.
- Store and retrieve your project data: We save your projects as JSON files in this private folder to enable cross-device synchronization.
What we do with this access:
- Save your project files to your Google Drive for backup and sync
- Load your projects when you access The Word Warrior from different devices
- Delete projects from your Drive when you delete them in the app
What we do NOT do:
- Access any other files or folders in your Google Drive
- Read, analyze, or process your writing content
- Share your Google Drive data with third parties
- Use your content for any purpose other than providing the Service to you
2.3 Analytics and Usage Data
We use Google Analytics to understand how people use our application. This includes:
- Pages visited and features used
- Browser type and device information
- General location (country/city level, not precise GPS)
- Time spent in the application
Important: Google Analytics does NOT collect or have access to your writing content, project titles, or any personally identifying information beyond standard web analytics data.
2.4 Information We Do NOT Collect
We do NOT collect, store, or process:
- Your name, email address, or contact information (beyond what Google provides for authentication)
- Your writing content or creative work
- Payment information (the app is currently free)
- Precise location data
- Any data from your device beyond what's necessary for the app to function
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the limited information we have access to solely for:
- Providing the Service: Enabling you to write, organize, and sync your projects
- Authentication: Verifying your Google account to enable Drive sync
- Improving the Service: Understanding which features are used and how to improve the app
- Technical Support: Diagnosing and fixing technical issues
4. Data Storage and Security
4.1 Where Your Data is Stored
- Browser Storage: Locally on your device in your web browser's localStorage
- Google Drive: In your personal Google Drive account's private appDataFolder (if you enable sync)

4.2 Security Measures
We implement industry-standard security practices:
- All data transmission is encrypted using HTTPS/SSL
- Google Drive access uses OAuth 2.0 authentication
- We follow Google's security best practices for API usage
- Your data is stored in Google's secure infrastructure (when using Drive sync)
4.3 Data Retention
- Browser Storage: Data remains until you clear your browser cache or manually delete projects
- Google Drive: Data remains until you delete projects or revoke The Word Warrior's access to your Drive
- Analytics: Google Analytics retains data according to their retention policies (typically 26 months)
5. Data Sharing and Third Parties
We do NOT sell, rent, or share your personal information or writing content with third parties.
The only third-party services we use are:
- Google Drive API: For optional cloud storage and sync (only if you enable it)
- Google Analytics: For anonymous usage statistics
Both services are governed by Google's privacy policies.
6. Your Rights and Choices
6.1 Access and Control
You have complete control over your data:
- Access: All your data is stored locally in your browser and/or your Google Drive

You can revoke The Word Warrior's access to your Google Drive at any time by:

Note: Revoking access will prevent sync but will NOT delete your existing project files from your Google Drive or browser storage.
6.3 Clearing Browser Data
You can clear all locally stored data by:
- Using your browser's "Clear browsing data" feature
- Deleting projects individually within the app
Warning: Clearing browser data without having Google Drive sync enabled will result in permanent data loss.
